Important changes have taken place in California in regards to Security Guards. With the passage of Assembly Bill 2880, after July 1, 2004 the class requirements and guard card renewal requirements have changed. Security guards must now complete forty hours of training starting with the 8 hour Powers to Arrest class. You will then have 30 days to complete your first 16 hours additional training on a variety of security topics. Following this, you will then have 6 months to complete the last 16 hours of training to complete a total of 40 hours (8 hour Powers to Arrest class + 16 hours within 30 days + 16 hours within 6 months = 40 hours). You may stand a post (work on-site as a security professional) after taking the 8 hour Powers to Arrest course and receiving your guard card. You may also elect to take all forty hours at one time. This is recommended. Please review our online AITC Course Outline, and call 818-487-4060 for class times and general information. Whether classes are taken in an 8 hr, 16 hr or a 40 hr time period, a numbered, dated certificate will be issued upon completion of each required course. We offer extremely competitive rates, with group discounts available.
If
you are a working guard, prior to renewal of your Security Guard card after
January 1, 2005 you must complete a eight
hour refresher course: four hours of which will be a mandated course
set by the state with the other four hours elective course material.
Remember, this 8 hr continuing education requirement must be completed
before you can renew your guard card if you are past your 2nd year of employment.
